The extension to Tower Hill School was designed to accommodate a one form entry addition to the existing primary school.
The new accommodation comprises 6 new classrooms and associated WCs together with new staff accommodation and specialist teaching spaces. Two pitched roofs with a linking corridor provide high quality teaching spaces and the use of clay plain tiles, timber and brick compliments the existing school.
The heating is provided via radiant panels integrated into the pitched roof construction to provide an integrated solution with the acoustic panelling.
Luminaires are suspended on wires from the ceilings and span the length of each teaching space within an enclosure which also houses the smoke detectors.
A minimal covered way links the new building with the existing school without obscuring views to the school’s ‘green lung’ external soft play area.
Cross ventilation is provided from side windows through high level ‘Velux’ type roof lights. There is also a PV Array located on one of the sloping roofs.
