The project incorporates the demolishment and rebuilding of the existing Parish Centre on an historic site in central Winchester. Low energy is the ethos of the design with the building expected to achieve energy use significantly improved on the requirements of 2010 Part L2a Building Regulations requirements.
The building is a highly insulated structure, very good glazing characteristics and with external shading incorporated in the design. A photo voltaic array is also proposed however this will be located on an adjacent building due to building design and planning restrictions.
The main ventilation system is a mixed mode arrangement with opening windows, automatic natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation facilities provided dependant on external conditions and internal use.
Heating is via open loop ground source heat pumps serving underfloor heating and is fully integrated with the solar water heating.
Lighting is fully automatic dimmable with occupancy and daylight sensing and is almost exclusively via very high efficiency LED sources. External feature lighting is also incorporated including time switch and proximity control.
Other services include audio visual systems, fire alarm and detection, IT/Voice/Data installations and security installations including CCTV.
