This project is the redevelopment of an existing site to include an 8 storey accommodation block of 132 no. student studio apartments with two lifts.

The building and its mechanical and electrical services are designed to achieve CfSH level 4 with an aspiration of level 5 for energy efficiency and use. To this end the following facilities and strategy are intended to be incorporated:

  • Heavyweight structure with high thermal qualities
  • Robust detailing with reduced infiltration
  • Combined heat and power units to provide 60% heating and 25% power
  • Photo voltaic array to provide 25 kWp
  • Studio apartments are provided with ‘whole house’ type variable speed ventilation with heat recovery and boost facilities
  • Mechanical heat recovery supply and exhaust ventilation to common parts
  • Smart metering plus BMS/digital automatic controls
  • LED lighting and automatic controls

The ground floor accommodation incorporates; entrance lobby, bicycle store, bin store, plant rooms including transformer chamber, office and stores.

The first floor incorporates studio apartments plus student study, gymnasium, recreation areas and laundry. The upper floors incorporate studio apartments.
